My Fav Fall Finds
You just can’t beat the overall vibe of fall, am I right? The leaves changing, apple-picking, and carving pumpkins. Like many people, sweater weather is my favorite time of year. I love being able to wear cute sweaters without having to worry about getting too hot or too cold. For equestrians, this marks the start of our finals season: a time when all of our friends gather in the same place and the opportunity to test everything we’ve been working on throughout the year. In Breeches and in Sweats, it’s my favorite time of the year. This fall, I have gathered a couple of my favorite fall finds that I am so excited to share with you today.
First off, let’s start with the obvious: you need a perfect fall sweater.
I have two sweaters that I plan to wear on rotation during finals season: my Breeches and Sweats sweater and TKEQ Cosmo Sweater in the color Delta (although I may have to get at least one other color). These sweaters are the perfect fall sweater because they are light, fitted, and classic. It gives the perfect, clean line while riding as opposed to bulky sweaters or sweatshirts.
I also love these sweaters because they both add just a little pop of color to my outfits, without being too much. Unlike my sister, I like to keep my outfits fairly plain. I stick to black and navy breeches and belts and sometimes add a little personality on my shirt. Even for this Plain Jane, these sweaters have just a hint of style to make my outfits (to use Natalie’s term) “swaggy.”
Jacket:
With how much I am traveling to various finals this year, I needed a jacket that was not going to take up half of the space in my suitcase, however I did need something that would keep me warm. Fall days can be warm and sunny, but those early morning hacks can be downright cold. That’s why I turn to my TKEQ EZ packable down jacket in Nickel. Just as the name describes, the jacket fits perfectly into a little (included) pouch that can be thrown in my suitcase, backpack, and trunk. I also love the fact that it’s both water and wind-resistant. The icing on the cake for this jacket was that it was made for equestrians. Therefore, the jacket doesn’t look or feel bulky while riding (unlike my Patagonia jacket). You can use my code LIV15 for 15% off all orders (valid through December 31)
Backpack:
Again, with the amount that I am traveling to horse shows this fall, I needed a backpack that could multitask in both “Breeches and Sweats.” My MaeLort Ring Backpack 1 in Navy/Black is my life. I take it with me on the plane, to the library, to horse shows, and even on vacations. I love the fact that this backpack has so many different compartments to organize my riding and school necessities, but it also has a hidden helmet carrier that I can whip out at horse shows or tuck away at the library. I have placed some of my favorite key chains on the front to add a personal touch, however, you can also use the D hooks for your spurs or other equestrian items. And did I mention the bag is ginormous? It fit all of my belongings for a two-day trip (including my clothes, 2 dopp kits, technology, and books.
Fall Food:
Ok. Ok. You all know I’m obsessed with waffles. BUT THEY’RE JUST SO GOOD!! So yes, obviously I am going to include my open-faced PB&J in my fall finds because I have been eating them non-stop. I have also branched out to having waffles with peanut butter, banana, and honey every morning because they’re so comforting, filling, and delicious. I love the fact that they have the sweet factor, but still fill you and have a little protein in them (thanks peanut butter).
My other fall food obsession is overnight oats. Unfortunately, my chef skills end at my open-faced PB&J and I have yet to actually make a good overnight oats myself, however Natalie has perfected her recipe. I will include the recipe she makes for me (if I’ve been nice)! More and more stores, and even on-site eateries at the horse shows, are making and selling overnight oats so they are a great find for a filling snack or meal when you’re traveling.
Nat’s Recipe:
Equal Parts milk (dairy or non-dairy) & oats (usually 1 cup each will do it)
Agave or honey
Add-Ins:
Canned Pumpkin and pumpkin pie spices (Yum!)
Protein powder
Chia seeds
Hemp seeds
Chocolate chips
Peanut butter
Swap reg. milk for coffee milk (Natalie says it’s unbelievable!)
Fruit (especially berries)
Nuts
Technology:
I love technology, so I obviously had to include my current favorite tech. I got my iPad just about a month ago and am in love. It’s so easy to work with; I can take notes, annotate PDFs, and even complete and hand in assignments. I have a Logi Tech combo touch case, Paperlike screen protector, as well as an Apple Pencil w/ a Nimble sleeve. I love this combination because the keyboard on my case detaches, but the case itself is still extremely protective, and the screen protector makes it a little easier to write (it has a paper-like feel, get it?!). The pencil sleeve isn’t necessary, but I have found it has done wonders for my handwriting, giving me a little better of a grip while writing notes.
I love sharing my favorite finds with all of you, have you discovered anything new this season?
